3rd Annual Children's Wish Foundation Tourney,
SEPT 23-25 at the RA Centre, Raises $4,000!

The $4000 raised at this year's event is an increase of $2,000 from our 1st and 2nd annual events. We surpassed the 1st and 2nd year events not only financially but in the number of teams participating. An astonishing 28 teams participated! They even came from as far away as Montreal. The winning teams for the tournament were Dazed & Confused who won the A Pool and the Fighting Irish who won the B Pool.

Also featured were two Home Run derbies for the men and one for the ladies. Dan Benoit of Optimist Club won the 1st men's derby, receiving $87.00 plus movie passes & 67's passes and Mike Mcarthy of Maritimers won the 2nd derby, receiving $90 plus 2 pairs of movie passes, while Jess from Kemptville team won $40 plus a CWF gift for the ladies derby. A 50/50 draw was also featured with a lady from Barrhaven's Team Creppin emerging as the winner of $126.00.

On October 15th 2005, a small group of PHSA members joined in the 1st annual "Wishmaker Parade" held on the Spark Street Mall. The event is a Canada-wide fundraiser for the charity. Participants joined in the walking parade, after which PHSA made a formal cheque presentation to Lynn Noel - Fundraising & Volunteer Co-ordinator for the National Capital Region.

Thanks go to Shawn Seary and John Turner for organizing this event. Special thanks also to all those who volunteered to umpire and thanks to the student volunteers as well.

Here are a few comments from people who participated in the 2005 event:

"Shawn and all the other volunteers,
Our team is very lucky not only to be able to play in such an excellent tournament every year but to know it is raising so much money for a great cause. It is very inspirational and probably our favourite tournament ever. Tremendous work Shawn, John and everyone else! See you next year for the 4th annual!

"Great job Shawn. For someone like me who was very sick as a kid, I realize the importance of the Children's wish foundation as there was nothing like it back in the 1960's. I can guarantee I will have a team in next year. All of my team had a great time."

"Shawn. My team had an excellent time! The Children's Wish Foundation is an excellent cause and I saw that first hand when they helped out a friend of mine who passed away when I was 15. He had Cystic Fibroses ......so I know the CWF made his wish come true. Thanks for all the effort you put into this!"

"WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! Fantastic news and due in a large part to all your efforts Shawn. Be proud of what you have accomplished. I'm proud of you and what you have accomplished and somewhere a child will benefit from all that hard work. Way to go."

"Working with you is always a pleasure.. this time it was no different. In the months up to the time of the tournament all the preparation was a load of fun, even getting up at the crack of dawn to get things ready and then going to bed late at night after all is done for the day. Seeing everything come together, the teams on the fields, the sights of people running the bases, the "crack" of a bat as it connects with the ball.. then when you get up there and present that cheque to the CWF and knowing it is going to become instrumental in making a child's wish come true..makes everything WORTH IT.
I'm proud of you and of your accomplishments. Thank you for being there, for children's wishes to come true!

"Just wanted to thank you for putting on such a great event. My team is very much looking forward to next year's event. I've been playing in a Children's Wish tournament here in Montreal for about 6 years and was absolutely thrilled to here that you were putting on one of your own. Thanks again for the fantastic weekend. See you all next year."
